Whitby has the benefit of many wrecks close inshore, in fact less than 3 miles from land, all of which have produced fish of 20lbs plus. Most anglers enjoy the thrill of wreck fishing using fishing tackle in the 30-50lb class. Various methods are employed such as artificial lures and bait.
During recent years fishing with shads has out fished other methods by far at certain times, your Skipper will always be happy to advise.
Wreck fishing is generally available all year round depending upon weather conditions.
This method is fishing from the boat whilst anchored, using much lighter and sporting fishing tackle, various baits are used. This provides a relaxing days fishing whatever your level of experience —much enjoyed by coarse anglers for it’s similarities.
One benefit of uptiding is that you can be fishing within 10 minutes of leaving the harbour.
Generally undertaken from October—April.
Perhaps more for the experienced angler after the fish of a lifetime. Sea Spray Skipper, Malcolm is part of the Save our Sharks Organisation which practices the catch and release method of sharking, this ensures all sharks caught are tagged, measured and safely released.
A DVD can be made for you to capture your memorable experience. These are usually longer trips of 10 to 14 hours.
Shark fishing is generally carried out during the months of June through to October.
During recent years there have been many sightings of whales off Whitby’s coast, typically Minky Whales, although other species may be spotted.
Normally between August and October.
